What is the point of this madness? I survived the day and drove to get Mackenzie after school and began the journey of talking to my kids. Rough conversations, thousands of questions with minimal answers. We prayed. We still pray. Mackenzie is scared. She is worried about me in the classroom and about her safety and her sister's safety. I can't believe this. Why runs through my head daily? Every day I have taught since then as felt like survival. Nashville is not ok, children are not ok, I am not ok.

Monday, March 27th
Today is Thursday, my heart is heavy and I believe that putting my words on the page will help. One day my girls will read this and understand the tears I keep shedding, the constant hugs, the pausing to soak it all up. I have returned to the classroom. This is my second year teaching at the elementary school, Percy Priest. Last year, I was in 4th for a maternity leave then I became an enrichment teacher. This year I am in specials area as the tech teacher and that will be my position next year if I choose to continue in this dangerous profession. I love teaching, it doesn't pay a large sum of money but it fulfills my heart and kids bring me joy. They are innocent and interested and loving and full of hope and joy. But then Monday happened and I am at a loss. We had a security drill planned for Monday, all schools are prepared for the most part to practice a lockdown if a shooter should enter the building. It is hard to practice, I think of Columbine, the fear I felt and all the others there after. They continue to happen. Why do they continue to happen? Sandy Hook made me the saddest as this time it was an elementary school, but then Monday happened. At 10ish in the morning, Dr. Young announced we were going into lockdown, but our teacher text thread informed us it wasn't a drill. I immediately texted Russ to ask him what was going on in Nashville, my heart began to race. He reported back at the same time my former counter part, Emily called to tell me there was a school shooting at Covenant. Russ continued to update me, I reached out to Amanda to check on Mackenzie at FRA. We were all in a lockout, but safe. Not Covenant. Covenant Presbyterian has been my church since the 7th grade. I admit, I do not frequent church as much as I should or really would like to, but it is where my best friend was married, my children were baptized, i took marriage counseling, bible study, my brother's wedding, youth group, ski trips, friendships, taught VBS, so many beautiful memories inside those doors. The news hit the national news and my friends near and far began to call. I would text, I couldn't talk, I was teaching. I stayed collected. 3 children died, many more have bullet wounds, 3 adults died.

Lockdown
We are on a lockdown. We can only leave the beachhouse to go to the grocery store for essentials. The news is constant that the virus is spreading through many states. We will stay in Florida until the lockdown is lifted.

Made it to Destin
We stopped at American Girl on our way out of town and bought the girls lots of new goodies since our trip to Chicago had to be canceled due to the virus.
Most people have left so the beach is very empty.
We still get chairs and are hanging with Grammy and Poppi.
Emma is working on her school work even though it is spring break.
Thankful to be in this beautiful place with my babies.

Back from my Blog Break
It has been a very long time since I sat down to record the ins and outs of our little family on this little piece of the web I call home. The death of Morrison was rough on me and diminished my creative spirit. I plan to back log last year for we had some incredible adventures that I want to remember. So hello 2020, my New Years resolution is to focus on recording our days with these precious girls under our roof. Life is short and I am trying to savor it all up.

Our First Real Tree
We typically put up a fake tree for Christmas. The reasoning was because MoMo would drink the water, climb the tree, break the ornaments, you know cat stuff. For our first Christmas with out my favorite little grey fluffernutter, we decided to get a real tree. And I am so excited about it. THE SMELL, the fun of picking it out, a new tradition!
Snowflake safely hauled our tree back to our house.
We let the girls pick and it was unanimous! They wanted this balsam, in their eyes it was and is the perfect tree.
Russ and I got it set up in our new tree stand, gotta love amazon.
We cut the orange strings, added some water and miracle grow and next up will be lights and ornaments.
The Wade sisters are very pleased with their selection!
As much as I am missing MoMo today, I am happy about this beautiful tree that the girls found for us. Morrison would have loved it!

Our Little Lamb
Mackenzie was selected to be a lamb for the second year in a row at the Nashville Ballet.
She performed in 4 shows at TPAC.
Her beautiful flowers from Mary Austin.
Little lambs hanging out with Clara.
Grammy and Poppi joined us for one of her shows.
Ann Wilson caught up with her before heading backstage.
And we dined at Newks, her pick after the show.
We love watching her dance on stage at TPAC.

Brushfire Pottery
This year we tried a new Christmas experience in the Nashville area. The girls enjoy painting at the local pottery store so we registered for Painting with Santa, an event they host every year.
Guess who was first in line!
We marched over to greet Santa and tell him our Christmas wishes. This year Addison wants Buzz lightyear, Emma wants anything and everything nutcracker and Mackenzie wants art supplies and a hydroflask.
After chatting with Mr. Claus, we snagged a table and began painting our ornaments that would be fired in the kiln and ready in a couple weeks to hang on the tree.
The girls were hard at work and when they completed this art, they ate some sugar cookies and drank milk.
Emma invited a friend from school to join us.
This was a fun way to spend the morning and I am thankful that we finally have a house where no one cries at the idea of sitting or meeting Santa Claus.
